Award-winning designer opens new Bangor studio

Award-winning interior designer Mairead Turner has opened a striking new studio in the heart of Bangor as demand continues to grow for her work across commercial, heritage and high-end residential projects in Wales and beyond.

The founder of Mairead & Co Interiors has relocated the business from Penmon, Anglesey, to a prominent six-bedroom Victorian property in the city – a move that has already generated significant online interest as she restores and transforms the building.

The impressive property is also attracting attention as a potential filming and photography location, with a French fashion brand set to use the space for a shoot later this year.

“We had been waiting for the right property and when this one came along, I knew it was the one – it’s epic,” said Mairead Turner.

“It’s an incredible Victorian building with so much character and the studio space is amazing. It inspires me every day and gives us room to grow as a business.”

Founded in 2019, Mairead & Co Interiors has developed a strong reputation for bold, layered and character-driven design work, spanning luxury holiday accommodation, private homes, hospitality venues and listed buildings.

Mairead is now joined at the new Bangor studio by studio manager Lauren Morgan-Clarke and brand and communications manager Natalie Bond, as the company expands to take on larger-scale commissions.

Originally from Yorkshire, she said the move to Bangor was a strategic decision to improve accessibility for clients and collaborators across North Wales and further afield.

“Being in Bangor makes it easier for us to travel across North Wales and beyond, and it’s easier for clients to come and visit us too,” she said.

The studio is increasingly focusing on commercial, heritage and conservation-led projects alongside its established residential portfolio.

Recent work includes the redesign of Caffi Meinir at Nant Gwrtheyrn on the LlÅ·n Peninsula, alongside a major commercial project for Village Dairy, the award-winning Llaeth y Llan yoghurt producer in Llannefydd, Conwy, where the team is reimagining reception and boardroom spaces.

“We’re seeing growing interest from businesses that want to create environments people genuinely enjoy working in,” said Mairead.

“With more people returning to offices and shared workspaces, there is a real focus on creating inspiring, welcoming environments that reflect a company’s culture and values.”

Alongside its commercial portfolio, the studio continues to work on residential and holiday accommodation projects across the UK, as well as the restoration of historic buildings – an area Mairead says remains central to her passion for design.

“I love working with listed buildings and heritage organisations,” she said.

“Protecting the character and history of these places while finding new ways for people to enjoy them is incredibly rewarding. Collaboration is such an important part of that process.”

The company says its new Bangor base will support further expansion as it continues to build a reputation for distinctive, design-led spaces across the UK.
