Alex Downes is set for 50th game in Bay cup tie

Alex Downes is set to make his 50th appearance for the Seagulls when the team face Flint Town United in the MG Nathaniel Cup at the 4 Crosses Arena tomorrow, Tuesday August 9, 7:45 kick-off.

He returned to the club this season from a spell with Runcorn Linnets, having originally come on loan from Chester in 2018 and being named Supporters Player of the Season in the curtailed 2019/20 campaign in which he scored the match-winning goal away to LLanrhaeadr.

The Bay beat Flint 3-1 in a pre-season friendly, but know Tuesday will be a different game.

“We learnt a little about them but they will have learnt a bit about us as well so we are expecting a tough game,” says manager Steve Evans.

Striker Matty Hill, who scored his first league goal for the club in the 2-2 draw at Llandudno, added: “These are the games you want to be competing in and its a chance to put out a bit of a statement as we want to be up there competing with them in Welsh Prem hopefully next year.”
