The Remarkable Reverend William Hughes and the African Institute

June 26, 2018 - 2222 views

Crefft Media had a great time finding out about Wales’s very own superhero – Rev William Hughes! The story: At the end of the 19th century, Rev Hughes set up the African Institute in Colwyn Bay. Over 100 students from all over Africa came to study at the Institute (otherwise known as Congo House), with many returning to their homelands as doctors, teachers, printers, tailors, nurses and lawyers. Find out more about the Institute by watching our film.

It was a pleasure working with Dr Marian Gwyn, Colwyn Bay Town Council and with Learning Links International to tell the story of this truly remarkable man.

Cafodd Crefft Media amser gwych darganfod mwy am superhero Gymreig – y Parch William Hughes! Y stori: Ar diwedd y 19eg ganrif, creodd y Parchedig Hughes Sefydliad Affricanaidd ym Mae Colwyn. Daeth dros 100 o fyfyrwyr o bob rhan o Affrica i astudio yn y Sefydliad (neu Ty Congo), gyda llawer ohonyn yn dychwelyd adref fel meddygon, athrawon, argraffwyr, teilwyr, nyrsys, a chyfreithwyr. Darganfyddwch fwy am y Sefydliad trwy wylio ein ffilm. Roedd yn bleser gweithio gyda Dr Marian Gwyn, Chyngor Tref Bae Colwyn a Learning Links International i ddweud stori'r dyn hynod yma.
