Members of the Welsh Youth Parliament representing the two parliamentary constituencies for Conwy County met with the Council’s Cabinet recently.
The first Welsh Youth Parliament was elected in December 2018 for a term of two years. It has 60 members aged between 11 and 18, and works directly with the National Assembly for Wales, representing the views of young people across Wales.
Evan Burgess represents Aberconwy and Harrison Gardner was elected as representative for Clwyd West. Both visited Bodlondeb earlier this week.
They were able to talk to Cabinet members about the issues that are being focussed on during this first term of the Welsh Youth Parliament: Life Skills in the Curriculum, Littering and Plastic Waste, and Emotional and Mental Health Support.
The Young Parliamentarians were interested to learn about the work of the Council, and the issues and challenges faced by the Council.
They were able to share their ideas with Cabinet Members, and hear about initiatives and opportunities being progressed by Members.
Cllr Anne McCaffrey, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Democracy, Law & Modernisation said, “It’s excellent seeing young people taking part in democracy like this.
"They present their views and those of their peers in such a constructive way and play an important role in getting young people’s voices heard in the Welsh Government.
"It was a pleasure to give them the opportunity to see how Conwy Council has the right environment for democracy to support communities and shape services.”
