Weather fails to dampen Old Colwyn's Xmas Market

December 16, 2018 - 1879 views

Despite bad weather at the weekend, the very first Old Colwyn Christmas Market was said to be a resounding success with a promise from organisers that they'll return again next year.

Over two days a predicted 2000 visitors came to the market giving the village a boost and entertaining visitors with a vast range of stalls mainly run by local people.

The event which covered the length of Cefn Road and hosted an indoor market at St. John's Church suffered from the weather on the Saturday as organisers battled with heavy winds and rain. Despite this visitors kept their spirits up with live entertainment and local bands on a special stage. Many stall holders ran out of stock and had to seek new supplies for Sunday's event.

To keep young visitors and families amused the market featured Christmas donkeys, the cast from our local pantomimes in Llandudno and Colwyn Bay as well as an number of visits from Santa.

The event was the brainchild of local resident Dawn Jones who suggested the idea on Facebook and after receiving dozens of supportive messages, a committee comprising of eight local people with a range of skills all worked together to make the Christmas Market a reality.

There are now plans for a possible Summer Market to concide with a special anniversary of St John's Church in the summer.
