The sporting world has paid tribute yesterday to the late John Hardy, a passionate supporter of sport in our Colwyn Bay communities and the man credited in making Stadiwm ZipWorld and the Eirias Park development a successful reality.

John sadly passed away last week and was Head of Active Creative Lifestyles at Conwy Council. He was one of the key people behind the establishing of RGC 1404, the rugby team here in North Wales and was charged in developing the sporting facilities in Eirias Park to the point in which it was seen as one of the best examples of regional stadiums in the country.

At yesterday's rugby match between RGC and Newport RFC at Cardiff Arms Park teams and supporters observed a minutes silence before the game kicked off to show their respects.

Many other local organisations including Colwyn Bay RFC also paid their respects and community sports clubs such as Wheelchair Basketball North Wales took to social media to show how much John had done for their organisations and show their sadness at his death.

The funeral service will take place at the Rhyl Dragon's (Rhyl Rugby Club) new facility at Tynewydd Fields in Rhyl on Friday January 18th from 2pm followed by a private committal. The venue was chosen due to John's former glittering rugby career with the club where he was seen as one of their greatest ever players.

He leaves behind wife Sonja, daughers Beth, Camille and Kate.
