Colwyn Bay have made another big locally-based signing in  former Wrexham and Welsh Under-21 international defender Mike Williams.

Mike, who lives in Old Colwyn and whose brother Marc played for the Bay between 2013 and 2015, made over 130 first team appearances for Wrexham after making his debut against Wycombe Wanderers in 2005 and played in two big cup wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe United the following year.

He made his Wales Under-21 debut against Northern Ireland and went on to win 13 caps for his country, alongside players like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, scoring a couple of goals.

He later had stints with Conference side Kidderminster Harriers before helping Altrincham win promotion to the Conference in 2013/14.

He retired from the game for a while with a hip problem, but made a comeback  with Llandudno and played for them in  Europe in 2016, before joining Bangor City.

Bay manager Craig Hogg said: "Its more good news. Mike is a local living in Old Colwyn and is someone I know very well. "He is a leader, a quality defender and another good addition to the club.

"He possesses a great mix of both Football League, Welsh pyramid and European football experience and those are qualities that will be very important for us going in out next campaign.

"I'm pleased we've been able to agree terms and am really looking forward to working with him at the Bay.

Mike commented: "I know the gaffer very well from my time at Llandudno and I've seen first hand how he conducts himself.

"His professionalism and his drive to succeed are traits I share and I look forward to working with him again. Being a local lad there is nothing more I'd like to see than for Colwyn Bay to do well. I'm looking forward to meeting the lads and getting started."
