Surf Lifesaving Club launches in spectacular style

August 02, 2018 - 1409 views

A new surf lifesaving club for Colwyn Bay launched in spectacular style earlier this evening down at Porth Eirias in the town.

The event designed to give members of the public the chance to see what surf life saving is all about and to show their support, was attended by scores of local people and children who keen to sign up and help run the club.

The RNLI Inshore lifeboat and Sea Rescue craft visited from Rhyl along with the Coastguard Helicopter which came to support the event from Caernarfon. The beach was packed with instructors, volunteers and members of the public keen to have a go.

The night organised by Mark Jones from Colwyn Bay Watersports and Roger Pierce from Conwy County Borough Council was only possible thanks to the kind contribution of the RNLI and the local Coastguard. Tonight marked the first of five events which will run tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and the following weekend. These will include timed swims, lifesaving and first aid courses. Anyone interested in taking part in the remaining events or helping run the club can contact roger.pierce@conwy.gov.uk.
