There's quite literally a sigh of 'relief' from shops in the Bay of Colwyn with confirmation that many retail businesses in Conwy County have seen a new relief on their recently issued 2019-20 Business Rate Demand Notices.

Last December, the Welsh Government announced the new temporary High Street and Retail Rate Relief Scheme for 2019-2020 which will take effect from 1 April.

The new scheme provides up to £2,500 of relief to all occupied, qualifying retail premises with a rateable value of less than £50,000.

Over 700 businesses in Conwy County including shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, hair salons and post offices are eligible.

Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, Councillor Sam Rowlands welcomed the Scheme.

“A thriving high street is good for local business and our economy and I’m pleased that so many Conwy businesses will benefit from this Welsh Government scheme,” he said.
