Colwyn Bay FC have announced that captain Tom McCready has agreed to a contract extension with the club for season 2019/2020.

The 28-year-old, who had two seasons in the Football League with Exeter City, says he was very close to quitting the game altogether last summer, but was persuaded to give it another season at the Bay.

"I was almost 100 per cent ready to pack in, but I'm glad I didn't because I really started enjoying my football again. I enjoyed the responsibility of being captain and helping the younger players in the team," he said.

He finished the campaign as top scorer and was voted Players' Player of the season.  He played in all but three of the 41 league and cup fixtures, scoring his first ever hat-trick against Newcastle Town, and  he celebrated his 50th game for the club earlier this month.

"It was a no brainer when Hoggy and Covs asked me to stay because I don't want to play for anyone else," added Tom.

"They have shown great trust in me and given me great support and  I want to repay that by helping in  any way I can  with the new project and moving the club forward."

Director of Football Neil Coverley said :“We are really pleased that Tom has agreed terms with the club for next season. He has been an excellent servant for the Bay since he joined us back in 2017 and some of the performances he has delivered in his time here have been sensational - it’s been a real pleasure to witness that from the dugout.

"His importance both on the pitch and in the dressing room can’t be understated at all and him committing his future to the Bay is a real positive for all at the club. It’s terrific news."
