Another boys’ hockey side at Rydal Penrhos picked up a regional title to book their place in the national finals.

The school’s U12 side took their place in the North Wales Championships on Monday, March 18th, which saw the group aim to continue the programme’s outstanding success in the competition over a prolonged period.

They began the tournament in fine fashion with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a very talented Ysgol Tywyn side, which featured standout efforts from Harry Fardoe, Gabriel Speakman and Ethan Akroyd.

This was followed up by an outstanding success against Ysgol Brynhyfryd, which ensured the Rydal Penrhos contingent clinched the title in fine fashion.

The group were marshalled superbly by skipper and Year 7 pupil Liam Farrell, with other notable contributions coming from Jonah Craddock, Harley Doyle, James Gilman, Joseph Gundy, Raif Horrocks and Arum Ramesh.

It has been another hugely successful campaign for Rydal Penrhos’ hockey provision, with the boys’ U12, U14 and U18 squad all qualifying for the national competitions later this year.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our U12 squad have all blended together immensely during their first few months together, and this was reflected with an impressive display in the North Wales Championships.

“They are improving all the time and have a huge scope to develop their skills further as a group, which will give them plenty of confidence ahead of the national finals.”
