A Colwyn Bay school has just announced the passing of a former pupil and school governor.
Mr Paul Slater passed away peacefully Friday, February 22 following a long illness, surrounded by his family, and he leaves behind his wife Clare, daughter Geraldine, his two sisters and their families. The announcement was made earlier in the day by Rydal Penrhos School.
Through his late father, George Slater, the family has a history at Rydal Penrhos going back to the 1940s.
Mr Slater himself attended the Prep School and the Senior School as a boarding pupil at Ingleside, which was run at the time by Housemaster Jim Barry.
He left in 1976 on to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University, and Mr Slater later became a senior partner at a law firm in Stafford and was part of the Rydal Penrhos’ Governing Body.
The former pupil was an accomplished actor and musician, performing with aplomb in school plays, singing in school choirs and playing the cello in the orchestra.
He enjoyed all sport and devoted many hours watching domestic and international cricket; for several years at Rydal School he was the First XI scorer.
Executive Principal John Waszek, said: “We were extremely saddened to hear of Paul’s passing. He was a much-loved and respected member of the Rydal Penrhos community who contributed so much both as a pupil and during his time on the school’s Governing Body.“Paul was enormously proud of his association with Rydal Penrhos and this came across in abundance to anyone who met him, with his achievements and lasting legacy standing the test of time to this day.
“Everyone at Rydal Penrhos would like to offer our sincerest condolences to Clare, Geraldine, the rest of Paul’s family and to those within the school community that were fortunate enough to have known him.”
