Rugby Sevens stars at Rydal Penrhos will test their skills against some of the best schools in the region at an upcoming pre-season tournament.

The school’s U18 side will host the six-team competition on Wednesday, February 6, which will be held at Burnage Rugby Club’s 3G surface.

This is the first official competition for the senior side, before the kick-off what promises to be an extremely busy and exciting campaign.

Also competing at the tournament are Birkenhead School, Bradford Grammar School, Giggleswick School, Newcastle under Lyme School and Oswestry School.

The tournament has been designed to get some much-needed match practice into the team ahead of the prestigious Rosslyn Park 7s event, which sees Rydal Penrhos pitted in Group O alongside Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, King Edward’s Whitley, Canford School and Gravesend Grammar School for Boys.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “It is the first time we have done something like this and it is the first official competition of the season for us before the season kicks off.

“Burnage RFC is an excellent venue for us as the 3G guarantees we will get some early 7s action in".

“At this stage of the season all it takes is a couple of wet weeks and competitions get cancelled week after week whereas in other areas of the country, especially in the southern counties, tournaments will still be running and that extra experience really counts come Rosslyn Park time.”
