Rare film screening to support Colwyn's Northern Eye

July 11, 2019 - 1536 views

Ahead of the much anticipated Northern Eye Photography Festival which lands in Colwyn Bay later this year, organisers have announced that they are to hold a rare screening of the movie Gandolfi Family Business.

On Thursday 18th July there will be a one-off screening of this unique film by Oriel Colwyn, in partnership with The Royal Photographic Society, Cambrian Photography and Theatr Colwyn. It will show at the theatre on Abergele Road from 7.30pm.

When, in 1982, Fred Gandolfi decided to close the family business, photographer Ken Griffiths thought the Peckham workshop and its unique contents should be recorded for posterity.

Joined by brother David and supported by a passionate team of film makers and photographers, they crafted a nostalgic feature film of startling beauty, recording the passing of the old Victorian industry..

Made over a period of 20 years, Gandolfi - Family Business tells the story of Fred and Arthur Gandolfi as they move from being the world's oldest living camera-makers into a well-earned retirement.

Tickets in aid of the Northern Eye Festival can be bought here and are available on a 'what you can afford' basis to make the screening available to as many local people as possible.

The Northern Eye Photography Festival is a collaboration between the Oriel Colwyn photography gallery and Aberystwyth's The Eye Festival.

Both festivals are biennial and hosted on alternate years to ensure an annual celebration of photography takes place in mid or north Wales.

Building on the huge success of the inaugural Northern Eye in 2017, the festival is thrilled to be returning in October to bring an all new set of outstanding photographers, speakers and exhibitions to the area.
