Porth Eirias Boxing Day Dip goes virtual for this year

December 26, 2020 - 1303 views

As with many events in 2020, the Colwyn Bay Boxing Day Dip is going virtual.

The annual dip has drawn crowds from all around with many braving the chilly waters at Porth Eirias, but this year for obvious reasons it cannot go ahead as per usual. To ensure a Covid safe event, organiser Tom Burke, is now asking everyone to use their imagination to dress in the funniest fancy-dress outfit and take a chilly dip in a different way.

Whilst wearing the wackiest fancy-dress outfit it is suggested that you take a cold shower for one minute, pour an ice-cold bucket of water over yourself, or immerse yourself in a bath for cold water for one minute!

Tom Burke, an active supporter of St David’s Hospice, is encouraging everyone to record a video of the virtual dip in whilst replicating the coldness of the dip.

Tom who is Managing Director at Animated Technologies says: “The event has been a real success growing by the year and last year was the most successful yet.

“It’s sad not to be able to have the event at the beach this year, but we still want to keep the spirit of the Colwyn Bay Boxing Day Dip going and are looking forward to seeing the funny, interesting and fun videos that are sent over and to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.”

All monies raised by the Boxing Day Dip will be a final boost towards the Hospice’s 2020 Recovery Fund, a campaign to help recover £1 million of lost income from cancelled events and charity shop closures due to Covid.

Participants can take part at a time convenient to them and upload their videos and photos to www.facebook.com/BoxingBayDip and make a donation via: www.justgiving.com/campaign/BoxingBayDip
