Conwy Library Service is inviting people to submit their views on the Mobile Library and the Home Library as part of a review starting this month.
The review aims to make sure that the services on offer are the services that people need, and are the best use of limited resources.
The Mobile Library and the Home Library provide services to many vulnerable or isolated members of our communities, but some Mobile Library stops have only one or no regular customers.
The cost of running these services is high, the vehicles are old and unreliable, and funding is reducing. As a result a public consultation is being carried out by Conwy County Borough Council between 28th January and 10th March 2019.
A number of options are being considered and your views are welcomed. Currently a number of possible scenarios are being discussed.
1. Take no action and continue to provide existing Mobile Library and Home Library routes. As the vehicles become more unreliable, this results in loss of services.
2. Withdraw Mobile Library provision and identify customers who meet the criteria and can be served through the Home Library, or can visit library buildings or use the On-line Library.
3. Amalgamate Mobile and Home Library service provision. Concentrate Mobile Library stops in communities that are remote from library buildings with limited public transport.
Cllr Mark Baker, Cabinet Member for Communities said, “We want to continue to deliver services to those members of the community who need it most. So, we need to make sure that the services we offer are the services people need, and that we make the best use of our limited resources".
