Motorists who use the Old Highway in Colwyn Bay are being warned that essential work will temporarily close the road from this Monday (1st July).

Following an incident which saw a tree fall and block the road a number of weeks ago, the local authority have decided that essential safety work is needed on the trees that line Pwllycrochan Woods Nature Reserve.

The road will be closed Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 5.00pm between Rhiw Road and Pwllycrochan Woods and there will be no access to cars or pedestrians during this time.

So that the work can be done safely, there will also be no access to the wooded path running parallel with the Old Highway.

Residents are also been asked not to park on the Old Highway during the week and whilst the work is being undertaken.

Tree safety is said to be paramount particularly after a number of incidents including the injury of a teenager on his way to Ysgol Bryn Elian earlier this year.

The council has urged residents to report any trees which may be giving concern particularly after stormy weather and high winds.
