Penrhos Avenue Education Centre, Old Colwyn recently organised a coffee morning with a musical performance from Conwy Music Service to fundraise for their chosen charity of the year.

More than 70 people attended the event which had a variety of stalls including a walking joke stall, a tombola, pitch and putt and cake stall.

Manned by the students of the centre, it was their way to thank St David’s for the love and support shown to the late Alan Brown (centre’s caretaker) and the late Doris Breeze (centre’s teaching assistant) who sadly passed away at the Hospice.

The Centre’s Alternative Education Co-ordinator, Steve Sherrington, said: “We would like to thank everybody who attended our charity coffee morning. It was an inspiring and uplifting morning, in which our centre was able to get together with the local community in aid of a very good cause".

“The atmosphere was truly wonderful and a real pleasure to experience, excellent music from Conwy Youth Orchestra and food prepared and served by the catering students.

“We, as an education centre, feel it is vital that our students play a full part in their community and the coffee morning provides an excellent opportunity.  The students with the support and advice of the staff choose the charity as well as help organise and conduct the event".

“All staff and students at Penrhos Avenue have experienced, or are aware of the love, help and support St David’s Hospice offer to families in very difficult times and hope the monies raised will help towards allowing St David’s Hospice to continue in the future.”

St David’s Hospice Conwy Area Fundraiser, James Wilde said: “What a phenomenal success this event was and such a special way to remember Alan and Doris".

“The musical performance kept the audience captivated and the stalls manned by many of the students of Penrhos Avenue Education Centre were so inventive.

The morning raised £791.29 for hospice care across North West Wales.
