New Head of Athletic Development at Rydal Penrhos

Rydal Penrhos School has announced its new Head of Athletic Development for the next academic year.

Joe Trickey, who held the position of Athletic Development intern at the school this year, has promoted by Director of Sport Allen Boyd to the position from September.

After gaining a BSc in Sport and Exercises Sciences from the University of Birmingham, Mr Trickey than successfully completed his MSc in Strength and Conditioning from Northumbria University Newcastle.

Prior to joining the Rydal Penrhos team, he worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Dame Allan’s School in Newcastle, and was S&C coach for Gregor MacLean, a Scottish pole-vaulter who competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Alongside his current role, Mr Trickey has also been working as strength and conditioning coach with the England Touch Association in preparation for the European Championships in July, and the World Cup in Malaysia next April.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Rydal Penrhos this year, thriving on the challenges of working within a school environment.

“I am extremely excited to be taking on the role. When I was offered the opportunity to extend my stay, it was a no-brainer. The chance to take the department forward in my own image and make a real success of it was too good an opportunity to let pass".
