Monthly bin collection becomes a reality

August 08, 2018 - 1336 views

Following a year-long trial of 10,000 households, Conwy’s 4-weekly refuse collection service is going county-wide from September 2018.  This service puts recycling right at its heart and the results from the trial found that recycling increased by 14% and refuse in wheelie bins reduced by 31%.

The year-long trial, together with extensive research before, during and after, found that recycling increased but so did the motivation to recycle. Residents reported that they were recycling new items, more items and some were even taking part for the first time. When asked why, the change in the service was given as the top reason. Residents also found that many of their concerns about the change, such as fly-tipping, did not materialise.

Extra recycling containers are available. These are all free of charge, except additional reusable garden waste bags which can be purchased for £1.50.  There is also a new weekly nappy and incontinence products collection service for those families that need it.  Assisted collections for those that have difficulty moving their bins or recycling containers will continue to be available. Larger households may be able to request an extra bin under certain conditions.

Information about the new service will be delivered to households in September along with a calendar of the new collections dates and details on all the materials that can be recycled.
