Mobile library and home library to merge in Conwy

Earlier this year, the Council asked library services customers to submit their views on the Mobile Library and the Home Library, to make sure that the services on offer are the services that people need, and are the best use of limited resources.

The Mobile Library and the Home Library provide services to many vulnerable or isolated members of our communities, but some Mobile Library stops have only one or no regular customers.

The cost of running these services on Conwy is high, the vehicles are old and unreliable, and funding is reducing.

Councillors were asked to support a proposal to merge the Mobile and Home Library services, and to concentrate Mobile Library stops in communities that are remote from library buildings with limited public transport.

Cllr Mark Baker, Cabinet Member for Heritage & Culture said, “We want to continue to deliver services to those members of the community who need it most.

"We need to make sure that the services we offer are the services people need, and that we make the best use of our limited resources.  I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to get involved to let us know how the different options would affect them.”

The aim is to merge the services by the autumn.

Customers currently using the Home Library Service will not be affected by the changes.
