Following on from the successful stewardship of former Mayor Councillor Stephen Williams, Colwyn Bay Town Council has revealed the priorities of the new incoming Mayor Cllr Neil Bastow.

As a keen motorcyclist and a recent supporter of the Eddie Kidd Kicks Back charity ride from South Wales to Colwyn Bay, Neil has revealed his passion for the town, its people and the charities and organisations which make up our strong community.

In a CV style resume Neil sets out what he looks forward during his 12 months in office.

"My passion for the Bay of Colwyn is to see its continued regeneration. To work with the business district to reopen closed shops, to bring diverse enterprises to the town and to engage the residents in supporting their locality.

"As an individual interested in history and a realist I look to harmonise the need for the new with the respect for the old, in that vein I particularly support respect of the Bay's heritage. I hope and pray that one day very soon the Pier will once again be a focal point of our town for all the right reasons, and I firmly believe that in whatever form it takes, it will bring jobs and focus the beach as the finest in the North Wales".

"I am married to an incredibly patient, supportive and wonderful woman (she needs to be), and we collectively have 5 Children and 5 Grandchildren, Christmas therefore is crowded and expensive".

"I work full time as a manager for Supported Living projects for people with Learning Disabilities and run social groups for people with high functioning autism.

" In my spare time I get the freedom of the open road on my Motorbike, but I don't seem to have spare time! My interests outside of working life are getting out into our landscape and just enjoying, motorcycles, running, reading and watching a bit of Rugby (Ok a lot of rugby)"

"My chosen charities for the forthcoming year will be children with Cancer UK, who I have raised funds for through competing in the London and Berlin Marathons and multiple half marathons in the past. I will be running the Great North Run in the Autumn and Shelter. I have a plan for the year for Shelter but as yet I cannot comment as there are factors yet to be confirmed."
