A 34-year-old woman has been jailed after failing to stop following a collision with a pedestrian in Llandudno that left a man with life-changing injuries.

Charlotte Brown of Cysgod y Castell, Llandudno appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Tuesday, October 21st, after admitting drink driving, causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop after a road accident.

She was sentenced to 16 months in jail and disqualified from driving for two years and eight months. She must also take an extended driving test once the ban has been served.

The incident happened on Crogfryn Lane, Llandudno on Saturday, January 28th at around 11.24pm when the vehicle being driven by Brown collided with a man walking home following a night out. He was left with serious and life-changing injuries.

Following the collision, Brown left the scene, before crashing for a second time outside Llandudno Magistrates Court just minutes later, where her car overturned.

She was assisted out of her vehicle by members of the public but left the scene. She was arrested later that night.
Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This collision resulted in the victim sustaining serious head and leg injuries, which will affect him for the rest of his life.

“Having spent four months at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, he was transferred to a specialist rehabilitation centre, which is where he currently resides.

“No sentence will heal the devastation brought to the victim and his family following Brown’s appalling actions on the evening of January 28th. However, I hope the conclusion of this case will bring them some closure and allow them to move on with their lives.

“We hope this tragic case will act as a reminder to all drivers that driving whilst under the influence of alcohol can have devastating consequences.”
