The Insport Series which celebrates disability sport heads to Eirias Park on Sunday 21st October. The event invites people of all ages and ability levels, with any impairment to get involved in different sports.
Six North Wales Disability Sport Wales development officers are organising the event which will see people from across North Wales be encouraged to get involved and try out as many of the sports as possible on offer. There will be over 20 inclusive sports including gymnastics, boccia, wheelchair basketball, rugby, tennis, cycling, archery and there will also be a swimming session available.
Councillor Liz Roberts, Conwy’s Cabinet member for Social Care and Health, said “We are delighted that the first ever regional Insport series will be hosted in Conwy. Conwy places great value on the rights and welfare of disabled people and recognises the impact that sport and physical activity can have on everybody’s health and well-being. To have such an inclusive event showcasing the current offer and collaborative work being done across Conwy and North Wales to enhance disability sport is something we are really proud of and I would encourage disabled people and their families to join us at Parc Eirias for the event.”
Wales continues to enjoy significant growth in participation. With its community focus on inclusive sport and physical activity. Disability Sport Wales now offers over one million opportunities per year to disabled people across Wales. The insport Series which travels across Wales is part of that offer providing the perfect opportunity for people to try sports and find out more about the many local clubs that they can join.
Fiona Reid, CEO of Disability Sport Wales said “To have 24 Governing Body partners providing opportunities to over 700 school-aged children and young people, and 150 members of the community is a real testament to the strengthening philosophy of inclusion within Welsh Sport. This is one of a series of insport events across Wales, not only is it a great opportunity for families, individuals and groups to come down to a great facility and try out a range of activities with local clubs, it also opens up the opportunities for disabled children, young people and adults to glimpse their potential. The insport series is a starting point to transform lives – whether that’s motivated by the fun of participating or the thrill of going on to compete.”
The event is free and takes place on the 21st October. All are welcome and anyone can turn up and have a go at as many of the sports as they want too.
