A town centre development site in Colwyn Bay has been brightened up with the help of local artist Andy ‘Dimeone’ Birch.

Hoarding panels, recycled from the Coed Pella development, were used for a street art workshop at the recent Prom Xtra event.

The artwork was inspired by an iconic old photo found online and was a truly collaborative activity, with a non-stop stream of young people taking part. There was also the chance for people to share their views, in particular about art and creative opportunities in the town.

Andy said, “It was great to be part of Prom Xtra and to have so many enthusiastic young people contribute to the finished piece.”

This activity was supported by Imagine Colwyn Bay a National Lottery Heritage Fund, Great Place scheme which aims to celebrate local history and offer creative opportunities to for people to shape future plans for the town.

Bethan Wynne-Jones, Property Investment Officer for Conwy County Borough Council said, “The development of the Market Hall site is a high priority and we are actively promoting it and seeking a suitable developer, meanwhile I am delighted that the site can be used for Community art.”
