Idyllic yurt makes the shortlist for Shed of the Year

August 14, 2018 - 2503 views

A local man is celebrating after having his 'shed' shortlisted in the much coveted Shed of The Year competition.

Jack Fetherstonhaugh who lives in Dawn, a quiet village between Colwyn Bay and Abergele, is the owner of Hapus Yurt a idyllic country site which welcomes visitors to enjoy spectacular scenery in very unique accomodation!

A traditional 'yurt' is a small round portable tent covered in skin or felt and originates in Central Asia and it is this design adapted by Jack which has got judges of Reader Sheds very excited this year.

Jack describes his entry on their website as quite a special design.

"Its under a yurt! can sleep up to 5 can sleep in the shed/yurt combo. The shed has a spiral staircase in it and a rose stain glass window. There is also a loo with a view in the shed. The interior of the shed is tongue and grove timber so has a warm feel about the place.

The shed is set in the welsh hill side in an opening surrounded by forest with beautiful views. I did the build by myself , occasionally asking friends to help out. Its very well made and highly insulated. The shed had electricity and wifi! The shed is beside an old barn, the two are connected -"through the rabbit hole' ! In the barn is a hand made kitchen from reclaimed wood, it is beautifully rustic. The kitchen space has a log burner. the shed has radiators as it was close enough for me to connect".

Readers have until August 28th to vote for the shortlisted sheds and we wish Jack and Hapus Yurt every success in their bid to win this year's competition
