The Seagulls entertain newly promoted Caernarfon Town tonight (Tuesday July 17th, 7:45pm) with assistant manager Craig Hogg declaring himself happy with how pre-season is progressing – despite two defeats in three days last week against League Two opposition. Hogg commented: “We are largely pleased with how the first 10 days or so of pre-season have gone.

“We have completed four training sessions and played two games against EFL opposition and worked hard with the majority of the squad, along with a number of trialists and we will be making decisions on them in the coming days and weeks".

“Within the training sessions we’ve met the conditioning targets we had set for week one of the programme and we’ve also covered the key technical and tactical principles from within our game model, and the way we intend to try to play this coming season. The group have worked hard and responded really well to that. The pre-season fixtures we’ve had so far have brought some tough challenges to the group, but I feel they have been hugely beneficial".

“The games have allowed us to cover the key distances and work load needed, but they have also put the group in some really high pressure situations where decision making, both in and out of possession, has been important. We have more work to cover in the weeks and games ahead, but it has been a positive start to the schedule so far. We now look forward to Tuesday night’s friendly against Caernarfon Town".

“The Cofis are a team I know well. I’m now living back in the area and have a big family connection living within the town, and I know how excited they all are with their return to the Welsh Premier League. The coming games should give the management team a clearer perspective of where we are at and what we need to improve, but we are happy with what we’ve seen so far and we are looking to kick on in the days and weeks ahead.”

"Hoggy", who will be in charge again with Alan Morgan away, hopes to have a bigger squad available than Friday against Colchester, when work commitments and heavy traffic depleted the starting line-up.

“Caernarfon probably reflect more the opposition we will be playing every week in the league, but I’m still expecting a very difficult and competitive game.”
