With all the St David’s Hospice shops, donation centres and cafés currently closed, volunteering activities are on currently hold, however when lockdown gets lifted, the local charity will need you more than ever.

St David’s Hospice has a network of over 20 shops across North West Wales, selling good quality second-hand clothing, bric a brac and furniture. They all depend on the support of volunteers to remain in operation.

Before the pandemic took hold, the shops produced a vital stream of predictable, sustainable income for the Hospice which has runnings costs of over £5million a year.

To successfully achieve that, though, St David’s needs to recruit additional shop volunteers.

Hospice Volunteer Co-ordinator, Lou Barber said: “The aim is to get the shops running at full strength again as quickly as possible once lockdown restrictions start to ease. The success of the shops is a result of the invaluable help and support from volunteers, who work closely with the shop team leaders.

“If you are looking for new opportunities, a chance to be part of a fantastic team, develop new skills and support a great cause, then please do get in touch as we have so many different roles available and there really is a volunteer role for everyone.”

Hospice Supporter Ceri Hughes who recently applied to join the team at Colwyn Bay shop, said:“I went through the process of applying to volunteer and found it really easy to do. You can apply online via the Hospice website, entering your contact details and a couple of references.

“Once the references have been received by the Hospice Volunteer Co-ordinator, you will receive a phone call to organise a date to meet the team and start volunteering. I am really look forward to it and it’s great to give something back!”
