Nearly 50 of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's work-based, Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) students from across Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Anglesey were honoured at an annual awards ceremony at the Optic Centre in St Asaph recently.

The ceremony was a celebration of the achievement of the ILM students - who are all employed by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board or the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust as managers or team leaders - who have successfully juggled the demands of work and study to achieve their ILM and NVQ qualifications.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai - which comprises Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor - has one of the largest work-based contracts in Wales with the NHS.

The students received their apprenticeship framework certificates from Gary Doherty, chief executive officer of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Institute of Leadership and Management is the UK's largest management body, combining industry-leading qualifications and specialist member services.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gary Doherty said: "I really admire those here today who have successfully completed their qualifications whilst juggling work and home commitments, as this is an extremely difficult balancing act. You should be extremely proud of yourselves".

"Staff with leadership and management skills are essential in improving services to clients in both the short and long term".

The qualifications awarded included: Level 2 Apprenticeship in Team Leading, Level 4 Diploma in the Principals of Leadership and Management and Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

The Grŵp currently trains over 150 ILM students, providing learning and development for today's leaders and managers.

The Grŵp's apprenticeship programme is assisting hundreds of companies and thousands of potential employees in accessing support to undertake company training needs, followed by sector-specific training and development for staff. The students were trained in both the classroom and the workplace by a team of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai assessors.

ILM is the UK's leading provider of leadership qualifications: over 70,000 ILM qualifications are awarded each year and over one million people hold an ILM qualification.
