Furious response to Conwy school cuts

Furious families, teachers and pupils gathered this weekend  to make their voices heard after local authority budgets of 3.2% put school activities, jobs and learning under threat in Conwy.

After Conwy County Borough Council announced that some schools could see cuts of up to £200,000 resulting in larger class sizes and job cuts, parents were contacted by the Heads of seven secondary schools saying it was 'make or break time'.

Yesterday a rally and protest took place outside Conwy Council's multi-million pound headquarters led by concerned members of the community.

At the same time Teachers and representitives from across Wales slammed the local authority claiming that the cuts will effect all aspects of school life as well as threatening Welsh medium education and support for pupils with additional learning needs.

The council responded to say that it has been in a difficult position due to a £15 million shortfall in their budget settlement with Welsh Government and that the cuts had been reduced from an expected 4% down to 3.2%.
