People in Conwy County have a new way to find out about free courses and events to help improve their mental health, with the launch of a booklet that brings together a range of resources.

The ‘Learning 4 Recovery and Wellbeing’ brochure is specifically aimed at those who use mental health services or care for someone who does. It will be produced quarterly and will be available as a printed brochure and on the Council’s website.

It is put together by Conwy’s People’s Partnership group for Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing, which includes Mental Health Teams from the Council and Health Board and organisations such as Unllais and Mind who support and advocate for people suffering mental ill-health. It is also supported by the European funded OPUS project which helps people get into work, volunteering and training, together with Adult Learning Wales, who provide community education.

Courses are themed so that people can find sessions that are relevant to them, whether they are starting to understand their mental health issues, are looking to gain life skills, wanting to find ways to become socially active, or want to find work or volunteering opportunities.

One Service user said, “For me it was a useful step in finding information and developing contacts.” Another commented that courses, “made me feel hopeful about the future.”

The brochure is online at: www.conwy.gov.uk/en/Resident/Social-Care-and-Wellbeing/Adults/Adult-mental-health/Are-you-looking-for-help-with-mental-health-problems.aspx

Copies are also distributed to Mind, Hafal, GP Surgeries and Third Sector Organisations.
