A massive fire broke out last night in Colwyn Bay on the site of a former nursing home.

Fire fighters were called just after 9pm to the blaze which appeared to have broken out in the roof of the former Mary Bamber Convalescent Home on Queen's Avenue in Colwyn Bay. Over nine fire units and over thirty firefighters brought the blaze under control and local residents were urged to keep their windows closed.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown  although it is expected that that an investigation will discover the reason for the blaze.

Mid-Wales and the North West of England have seen a weekend of fires as a result of the continuing hot weather.
