Face coverings on public transport becomes law today

July 27, 2020 - 931 views

Today in Wales the wearing of a three layer face covering becomes law whilst travelling on public transport.

The measure has been taken to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers in environments where social distancing to the recommended 2 metres cannot always be guaranteed.

The guidance has applied to Arriva Buses in North Wales for a number of weeks now but from today it applies as law on buses, trains, taxis and minibuses.

If you are not wearing a three layer covering you will be refused travel and if you fail to keep your face covered whilst on public transport, you may be fined and possibly banned from future travel.

Welsh Government have said that public transport should only be used for essential travel and where other means of transport isn't possible. People are being urged to continue working from home where possible in this situation.

In other news, visitors and patients attending treatment to hospitals in North Wales are also being asked to wear face coverings at all times. This follows a spike in COVID-19 cases in North East Wales.

The guidance applies to all North Wales hospitals including Ysbyty Gwynedd, Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor.
