On the final day of the National Eisteddfod in Conwy, it was announced the region's Honorary President is to be journalist and presenter, Dylan Jones.
He spoke from the Pavilion stage earlier today at the festival held on the outskirts of Llanrwst.
Originally from Capel Garmon near Llanrwst, Dylan was educated at the local village primary school, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy and Aberystwyth University, where he graduated in Politics.
He taught at Ysgol Maes Garmon, Mold and was a head of department at Ysgol Glan Clwyd St Asaph before he joined the BBC Cymru News Department, a year after reporting on the Hillsborough disaster.
He worked as the BBC’s reporter in the north east, reporting on a wide range of stories, including the Jamie Bulger murder, the Dunblane disaster, the death of Princess Diana in Paris and events in Pakistan following the 9/11 atrocities.
He began presenting Radio Cymru’s daily phone-in, Taro’r Post in 2002 before moving to present Post Cyntaf in 2013.
He has also presented the popular radio football programme, Ar y Marc every Saturday morning since 1992, and one of the highlights was tracking Wales’ success at the 2016 Euro Championships in France!
He won the 1997 Television News Reporter Award, the 2009 Radio Personality of the Year Award at the Pan-Celtic Media Festival, and this year, he was part of the team which won the Wales Media Award for the Best News and Current Affairs Programme.
Dylan and his wife Elen live in Denbigh, and he has six children, Lois, Gruff, Rhys, Sara, Ianto and Alys, most of whom are now avid Leeds United fans!
Dylan follows a number of prominent Welsh people as the Eisteddfod’s Honorary President, including presenter and DJ, Huw Stephens who was last year’s President at Cardiff, scientist Professor Sir John Meurig Thomas, judge Nic Parry, and the Wales football team’s Assistant Manager, Osian Roberts.
