Dementia tour helps better understanding

For the first time, Conwy County Borough Council’s Community Wellbeing team will welcome the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) Bus to Llanrwst and Llandudno Junction.

The VDT Bus is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like.

By walking in the shoes of a person living with dementia, carers and family can start to understand the issues that they face every day; helping to change practices, reduce issues and improve quality of care.

Cllr Liz Roberts, Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services said, “The Virtual Dementia Tour helps participants to understand what people with dementia experience every day. It gives them an opportunity to understand what they need to change to keep loved ones at home longer.

“During the tour participants will experience being confused, isolated, lost, and vulnerable. The virtual tour lasts minutes but for people living with dementia, this is how they live their lives. This experience can truly change the lives of people with this disease.”

The Virtual Dementia Tour Bus will be at Hafan Gwydir in Llanrwst on Monday 11th March before travelling to Tesco in Llandudno Junction on Tuesday 12th March.

There are 72 spaces available for carers, unpaid carers, loved ones or friends of people living with dementia.

To reserve a space call 01492 577449 or email stayingwell@conwy.gov.uk.
