Deganwy residents win battle over access to their quayside

Residents living in Deganwy who fought a 'David and Golliath type battle' with Network Rail over the closure of a footpath linking outskirts of the town and the quay, have won.

The coastal path crossing the railway line closed in 2011 and since then local people and councillors have fought hard to regain access.

The case was taken to the High Court after an initial public inquiry ruled in the public's favour and arguments to overturn the inquiry were subsequently rejected. Now local people are pushing for the path to be quickly opened.

In response, Network Rail said they were considering next steps following the rejection of their appeal.

Many pathways crossing railway lines have been restricted or closed across the country following safety concerns and worries about trespassing.
