An exciting new project will be placing culture, creativity and community at the heart of Colwyn Bay’s regeneration.

'Imagine Colwyn Bay' is one of five Great Place schemes in Wales launching with a special event on 9th April.

The partnership project will run until March 2021 and will be harnessing interest in the town’s unique past to inspire and connect people through an innovative programme of cultural activities, exhibitions and events.

These will include augmented reality trails, animating people’s memories, social and family history research and, enriching education opportunities and resources.

The launch, taking place from 4pm until 7pm at Theatr Colwyn, will showcase some of the amazing work that has already taken place and local creative talent. There will be the chance to place yourself in the picture with a green screen, try your hand at animation, and take part in virtual reality, as well as film screenings and informative speakers.

Imagine will also be supporting the development of Colwyn Bay as a hub for creative industries. This will link closely with The Longman Trust’s ambitious plans for the future use of 7 Abergele Road (former Cash & Carry) to develop somewhere that offers innovative networking and delivery opportunities for businesses and individuals.

Arthur Creber, Chair of Imagine Colwyn Bay steering group and active member of Colwyn Bay Heritage Group said; ‘I hope the previous work of local groups and their collections of cultural and heritage resources can be used as a springboard for future creativity and inspire a sense of pride and place in the community.”

Cllr Mark Baker, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Development Services and Regulation added his support to the project.

He said: “Imagine Colwyn Bay is a timely opportunity to bring the community together and collectively celebrate the town’s history with Culture and Heritage at the forefront of social and economic regeneration for the town.”

Imagine Colwyn Bay is funded thanks to National Lottery players through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Great Place scheme, with additional funding from Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Colwyn BID.
