Yesterday's heavy rain did very little to dampen the atmosphere at one of the most prestigious music events in the Colwyn Bay calendar.

Proms in the Park, an event held at locations across the country to mark the last night of the Proms season once again brought delighted crowds to Stadiwm Zip World to watch Wales' own Katherine Jenkins take to the stage. Rain from earlier in the day held off and the evening was warm.

The show which was broadcast live on BBC Two Wales and included in highlights across the whole of the country was considered to be one of the best despite the weather.

Katherine was joined on stage by Lee Mead, a singer and actor best known for his role in BBC One's Holby City. There was an emotive performance by the Chorus of Wales and the BBC National Orchestra.

The event began as a dress rehearsal in the afternoon in preparation for the television broadcast in the evening and was attended by many of the town's dignitaries, councillors and VIPs.

Events also took place in Scotland and Northern Ireland with the Last Night of the Proms event drawing to a close at London's Royal Albert Hall. In traditional Last Night style, people attended dressed in bowler hats, crowns and Union Jack outfits.

Over the last 60 days the city played host to 85 live concerts with more than 300,000 attending over the celebration.

The BBC reported that a high percentage of tickets had been bought by first time Proms concert go-goers and young people showing that there's is still a great deal of appreciation and love for the traditional Proms events.
