Council roll out monthly bin collections in Colwyn Bay

To help residents recycle more and waste less, Conwy’s Cabinet have agreed that additional support measures will be in place when 4-weekly bin collections start.

Following a year-long trial that proved that less frequent collections increase recycling and reduce landfill, Cabinet have agreed that the roll-out of 4-weekly wheelie bin collections will start in September 2018 with support measures and a comprehensive engagement strategy.

Over the next few months, officers and councillors will be looking at coordinating the changes, finding out what additional support people might need, and starting to plan new collection routes.

All households will continue to receive recycling and food waste collections every week, with extra recycling containers available to anyone who needs them.

Weekly nappy collections are available for nappies and incontinence products, and special arrangements can be made for medical waste.

Garden Waste, electrical items and textiles are collected fortnightly.

New measures will include free bulky waste collections, and mobile recycling centres in the rural area.

Cabinet Member, Cllr Donald Milne, said, “It’ll take a few months to make the arrangements for the changes, and once everything has been finalised we’ll circulate the full details and calendars to every household who will have a change to their collection.”

“In the meantime, if you need extra recycling containers, a visit from our recycling officers or you have a question about refuse and recycling contact our Mochdre offices by email erf@conwy.gov.uk or phone 01492 575337.”
