Conwy County Borough Council's Cabinet have today supported Conwy’s Welsh in Education Strategic Plan.

All local authorities in Wales must prepare and revise a Welsh in Education Strategic Plan, to explain how the local authority aims to achieve the targets set by Welsh Government.

Conwy County Borough Council has a vision to ensure that all pupils in the county have fluent and confident linguistic skills in Welsh and English.

The Plan has already attracted praise for its far-reaching ambition.

It details how we will prioritise the promotion, development and expansion of the Welsh language in the education sectors in co-operation with key stakeholders in order to increase the numbers receiving Welsh medium education as well as encouraging the county’s children and young people to be proud of the Welsh language, its heritage and culture.

Cllr Garffild Lewis, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “The Plan sets a clear vision and places the Authority on a robust and ambitious path to ensure the growth and development of the Welsh language in our schools. The Welsh Government has already approved it and I look forward to seeing the plan being implemented and achieved over the coming years.”
