Earlier today a team of four staff and 12 pupils embarked upon the school’s sixth bi-annual trip to Uganda.

This year’s trip, led by Mr Sanders along with Miss Jones, Mr Sutton and Mrs Seenan; sees 12 pupils from Year 11 to Year 13 travel out to further develop the school’s links with our various partners in Uganda.

The team will again once visit the Hope Street organisation and spend time with the street children in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

There will be an opportunity to present the funds which have been kindly donated by the Prep School’s Secrets Room fundraiser and will go some way in helping with the running costs of the organisation.

They will once more work with RUHEPAI on a project to repair storm damaged school buildings in rural Kayonza Church School in Mbarara District along with visiting St Deo’s School in Kitooha, home to many classrooms now filled with benches and desks kindly donated via funds from the ‘Buy a Bench Appeal’ the team led last Christmas.

There will also be another attempt to forge links with a large secondary school in Shuuku and the team’s first visit to Nkuru Business and Vocational College.

It won’t be all hard work for the team however, as a three day stay within the Lake Mburo National Park will include community engagement activities and a 24 hour safari pass.

Additionally, the group will visit the work of many international organisations, including Chester Zoo, on Ngamba Island which is home to around 50 chimpanzees as part of a project to increase the wild population in Uganda and other sub-Saharan African countries.

The Uganda link is something the school is very proud of and these visits help to further cement their relationships with various stakeholders, as well as providing an opportunity fo pupils to experience the daily life of people in a developing country.

This year’s pupils are:  Tallulah Batley, Harry Hackman, Harri Jackson, Ruby James, Grace Jordan, Morgan Kendall, Vanessa Ma, William Stewart, Josh Thomas, Iestyn Williams, Richard Wolfendale, Alicia Zhou.
