Wales in Bloom is one of the regional elements of the national Britain in Bloom Competition and today Colwyn Bay town proudly announced the winners in a special ceremony supported by Colwyn BID.

Colwyn Bay received the Silver Gilt Award and came second in the Large Town Category pipped to the post by Prestatyn who took first place.

Ysgol Llandrillo yn Rhos also got a special mention from the judging committee and picked up a Highly Commended Award for the green fingered work young pupils had been doing including developing a special eco-garden at the school.

Llandudno came first in the Coastal Town section and Llanrwst and Penmaenmawr also won awards.

Britain in Bloom, supported by the Royal Horticultural Society, is divided into various regions Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and 12 in England.

Entries are made by Local Authorities, Town and Parish Councils and can vary from small villages to large cities. These are judged regionally by qualified judges during July each year.

At a local level many begin by organising a range of events and activities in their local Communities, beginning with the 'It’s Your Neighbourhood' Awards.

Once these have been assessed, and entries have progressed to the top level, they may wish to enter the Regional Campaign.

Other entries are also invited from Caravan Parks, Pubs, Restaurants and Holiday Homes, being judged under a different criteria. This is an important part of the competition and a huge benefit to Tourism in Wales, and the local business community.
