Work to bring one of the fastest high speed fibre and wi-fi networks in the UK to Colwyn Bay is well underway says the company behind innovative plans.

Bangor based British Fibre Networks who have partnered with local housing associations, new builds and businesses to install fibre straight to the premises, are promising a world class, lightning fast network that will ensure slow speeds in the locality become a thing of the past.

Work has already bugun on connecting the Colwyn Bay Fibre Zone to the main fibre link into North Wales and to high speed data networks in Manchester. By May the network will be available to householders and businesses with speeds up to a breath taking 100 megabits a second.

In addition a high powered wi-fi mesh network will be completed by June to provide coverage from Eirias Park in the East to as far as Princess Drive in the town centre.

Mobile phones, tablets and computers will able to experience speeds only seen in countries like Singapore and will eventually mean that the network will expand further into Rhos-on-Sea, Old Colwyn and into other Conwy towns and villages.

Colwyn Bay will be leading the UK with the introduction of this new technology and it will be one of the first in the country to have its own connected community.

What make the network unique is that not only will it carry high speed data and the internet at speeds never experienced before but it will deliver locally sourced data, news and information to businesses and users in the zone. This might be travel, traffic, local authority information or entertainment from partners such as Bayside Radio.

The possibilities of the technology is endless and in the longer term it is expected to help deliver council services more efficiently from being able to montor when bins need emptying or when an event at Stadiwm Zip World is full to capacity.

CCRM CIC owners of Bayside Radio are proud to be working alongside British Fibre Networks to showcase the opportunities that this network will bring.

There is expected to be exciting opportunities for businesses in the town as restaurants and shops use iBeacon technology to beam out special offers and details of what is being offered.

Residents would be able to book a table at a local restaurant and be greeted with news of discounts and incentives when they walk into a certain part of the town or into a specific shop or business. The Fibre Zone will help make the shopping experience more interactive and engaging, ultimately contributing to the town's regeneration.

British Fibre Networks will be sharing their plans for the Colwyn Bay Fibre Zone during a number of events and presentations over forthcoming weeks.
