Children from across Colwyn Bay are being invited to take part in a special celebration which returns at the start of the summer.

Playday is the national day for play in the UK, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August. This year Playday will be celebrated on Wednesday 7 August. This year's theme is Play Builds Children.

Last year Colwyn Bay celebrated the event on the playing fields owned by Rydal Penrhos School.

The Playday 2019 theme aims to highlight the many ways in which play is beneficial to children and young people.

Play Builds Friendships – playing allows children to interact with others, develop relationships, deal with conflict, and learn respect and tolerance.

Play Builds Resilience – playing boosts children’s confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills and perseverance, enabling them to cope with stress and challenges throughout life.

Play Builds Health and Well-being – being active through play helps children physically and emotionally, contributing to their health and happiness.

Play Builds Communities – playing allows children to learn about the world around them, make connections, and develop a sense of identity and belonging.

On Playday, thousands of children and their families get out to play at hundreds of community events across the UK.

From small-scale community events to thousands of children taking part in events organised in parks and open spaces  – Playday is celebrated by each community in a way that suits them.

As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.
