Staff from one of Coleg Llandrillo's training restaurants recently organised a raffle, raising hundreds of pounds for a local disability cricket team.

Coordinator Hazel Ramsay presented a cheque for £409 to Neil Roberts, who is the manager and coach of both the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club MACS (Mixed Ability Cricket Section) side and the Wales disability cricket teams. Neil is a lecturer within the Construction department at the college's Rhos-on-Sea campus.

Hazel, from the college's Bistro Restaurant, spent weeks putting together a list of prizes for the raffle, which were kindly donated by local companies: from a supermarket luxury hamper to tickets for a theatre show.

Neil Roberts said: "We are really grateful to Hazel and the college for their generosity and support. The club needs to get additional funding, as we are the only mixed ability cricket team in North Wales, so we have to travel long distances just to play cricket. We tailor the training to the individual's needs. We started with three members, now there are 14. Over the past four years, we have had drills, practice, fun and pain at cricket practice on Friday nights".

Neil has also helped to organise the first tri-nations tournament, which will be held at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club on August 5th. The international mixed ability cricket competition will comprise of teams from Scotland, England and Wales and is free to watch.

The Colwyn Bay MACS side was recently awarded £2,000 from the People's Postcode Lottery, which was a massive boost, as the travel bill for the team in 2017 was £3,000 alone.
