A pair of budding games developers' digital creations impressed a video games company so much, they were chosen to actually appear in a smash hit video game!
Jasmine O'Hagan, 20, from Abergele, who is currently studying on the Foundation Degree in Games Development course at Coleg Llandrillo's Rhos-on-Sea campus, and 19-year-old Adam Griffiths from Rhos-on-Sea, who completed his studies in the summer and is now studying Sound Design at the University of Staffordshire, had a character and a musical piece incorporated into the top five hit video game, 'Retro Racing Rampage'.
Last month, 'Retro Racing Rampage' was the 4th most popular title on Indie DB out of 47,865 titles!
Pixel Knights video games company, which provided one of last year's briefs for the students' Games Development creative solutions module, is using a character designed by Jasmine within the game and a piece of music created by Adam within the soundtrack. They will both be named in the credits and have a video game title to add to their CVs.
The students' tutor Rob Griffiths approached Carl Jones from Pixel Knights - which is based in Pwllheli and is one of the largest independent games studios in Wales - about work placements for his students. A dozen keen gaming students were involved in the online work experience, creating 3D designs, soundtracks and character designs. Ultimately, Carl selected Jasmine and Adam's work for the company's new release.
Jasmine has always been a keen gamer, but got more into the development/design side of things after completing a schools Link course when she was in the sixth form. Concerning the future, she is now weighing up the options of either studying for a Masters' qualification, or going straight into the industry as a games designer.
