A local college is introducing a brand new range of 'Passport to Employment' courses due to demand from the burgeoning customer service, retail and sales sector.

Nearly 50,000 people in North Wales work in customer service, retail and sales, and the numbers are projected to rise considerably as a host of companies open new ventures within the area, creating a demand for people with customer service qualifications. This industry is also one of the biggest employers in the UK.

Rhyl College, part of Colwyn Bay's Coleg Llandrillo, which consulted with Denbighshire County Council on the curriculum, will be offering two 'Passport to Employment in Customer Service' full-time, one-year courses from September 2018: 'Preparing for Customer Service' (Level 1) and 'Supporting Business Organisations through Customer Service' (Levels 2 and 3). The courses are suited to front-of-house, receptionist-type roles with a requirement for business administration skills.

These courses are ideal for people wanting to secure jobs within North Wales coastal businesses: including hotels, the tourism and hospitality sectors, and the new aquatic centre in Rhyl.

On completion of the courses, students will have gained a wide range of qualifications to add to their portfolio. These include: City and Guilds in Customer Service; City and Guilds in Employability Skills; Highfield Award in Food Safety in Catering; Highfield Award in Emergency First Aid; Barista Training; Worldhost Training; Welsh in the Workplace; Essential Skills for Working Life, and a GCSE in English.

The course will be delivered using lectures, discussions, case studies, outside visits, interactive learning, self-study, group work, plus many other options to help make learning fun and enjoyable. Each student will be allocated a personal tutor who will provide support throughout their time at college.
