Choral Festival gives hoteliers plenty to sing about

Hoteliers and guest house owners across Conwy have just reported a bumper weekend following on from the North Wales Choral Festival. 

The event which was held last Friday to Sunday in Venue Cymru saw over 800 choir members competing throughout the weekend. Choirs travelled from Ireland, England and Wales to compete and this gave the local economy and shops a good boost.

The event opened on Saturday with Warrington Male Voice Choir winning the Male Voice choir competition, The City of Chester Male Voice Choir taking second and Hims and Arias coming third. Amabile Choir took first place in the Youth competition, and GLÓR Youth Choir were second place.

Finally for the Saturday competitions it was Just for Fun with Milis winning, The Bostock Singers second and Knutsford Star Choir placed third.

Sunday’s competition’s opened with the Ladies category which saw Heartbeat Chorus taking first place, Vocelle second and Impromptu third.

It was then onto the dazzling Barbershop Style choirs with Heartbeat Chorus coming first, Cheshire Chord Company second and Crystal Chords third. And finally to wrap up the days competitions, new for this year, the Musicals category with Valley Aloud Community Choir taking first place, Dun Laoghaire Musical & Dramatic Society coming second and The Gallery Choir third.

Audiences were not only entertained by competitions this weekend but also two evening concerts.

On Friday local choir Côr Meibion Maelgwn Male Voice Choir, along with Welsh National Opera soprano Fflur Wyn entertained all with a variety of musical genres. And Saturday evening choirs from various competition categories took the opportunity to be on stage in a more relaxed atmosphere, without worrying about the watchful eye of the adjudicators!
