The Welsh Government Minister for Children, Huw Irranca-Davies has announced today that a further seven local authorities across Wales are set to pilot the Welsh Government’s new Childcare Offer.

When rolled out across Wales by September 2020, the offer will provide 30 hours of Welsh Government-funded early education and childcare to working parents of 3 and 4 year olds for 48 weeks of the year.

Welsh Government Minister for Children, Older People and Social Care, Huw Irranca-Davies said: “Our ground-breaking childcare offer is making a real difference to parents right across Wales, reducing the strain on family income and helping ensure childcare is not a barrier to them taking up employment or increasing their hours. “I’m delighted to confirm the offer is being rolled out in Conwy, as we continue the work to roll out the offer across the entire country by September 2020.”

Conwy County Borough Council will work in partnership with neighbouring authorities to develop the 30 Hour Childcare Offer for 3 and 4 year old children of working parents.

The pilot areas, which will start in September 2018 will include Betws yn Rhos, Llangernyw, Pentrefoelas, Llansannan, Llanfair Talhaiarn, Uwchaled.

Cllr Garffild Lewis, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education, said, “I’m delighted to hear this announcement from Welsh Government.  I fully support the introduction of the pilot schemes and believe that the new 30 hour scheme will help to address many of the childcare issues identified over the last few years in our urban and rural areas. We’ve lots to do over the coming months to put arrangements in place and to raise awareness."
