A talented Golf Academy member helped a regional youth side secure a notable victory.

Charley Simpson, a Year 9 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, was part of the North Wales Boys’ squad that took on their Cheshire counterparts in a special fixture at Rhuddlan Golf Club late last month.

The sports scholar and Golf Wales Academy star played a leading role for the squad, emerging from the competition with a 100 per cent record to further enhance his reputation as one of the brightest young prospects anywhere in the region.

He managed to win both his singles and doubles matches to claim valuable points for the North Wales side, which will stand the Rhos on Sea Golf Club junior captain in good stead as he goes in search of further tournament success over the remainder of the summer.

Charley has been one of the shining lights of Rydal Penrhos’ Golf Academy programme since arriving as a Year 7 pupil and has developed his skills considerably under Ian Richardson and other specialist coaching staff at the school.

Head of Physical Education Nicky Head, said: “Charley’s ability to perform consistently well under pressure in a competitive environment is something that has really come of age in recent months, and this is reflected with the level of performance and impressive results he has achieved.

“Hopefully this is something that can continue long into the future and our coaches will be working hard with Charley in the coming months to ensure that his long and short term goals are met.”
